19/21st June
After the trip through the Katherine Gorge we decided to do the Cutta Cutta Caves just South of Catherine. These are in the middle of nowhere and amongst a weird array of rocks. These are weathered sandstone covered with lichen which gives it the grey look.

Some unusual formations weathered over time.

The boss leading the way to the caves. Real Snake country though we didn't see any!

Our Guide for the Morning was not an Aborigine but a Torres Strait Islander
I cant  remember his name but he was a happy chap.

Getting ready for the plunge underground. that the entrance behind me.

Some of the interesting Stalactites and formations underground.

This is one interesting formation I found down there!

Thank goodness the way out. The talk of Bats and Snakes down there with the lights turned off and  total complete darkness, is not good on the senses.

While we were in Katrherine the Ghan came through and stopped, so we went and had a look.

Nice logo on the side, could do with a clean though.

The carriages stretch into the distance. I think I counted 30,that's  a big train.

4,000 HP and they carry fuel for the entire trip from Adelaide to Darwin. Re fuel in Darwin for the return trip. I think he said (the driver) that they carry 4000 Litres plus.
It looks like a great trip to do if you can get to Adelaide or Darwin to start.
That's about it for now, more on Katherine next post
Cheers Helen and Dave
