20th June
Another local landmark was the Springvale Homestead, which was established in 1879 when they drove 5000 head of Sheep and Cattle from Adelaide to establish the farm. It must have been an epic journey knowing how stupid Sheep are. Anyhow all went well, but when they came to shear the sheep they couldn't find a market for the wool, so by 1885 they abandoned the place,as it was costing too much to run with no markets for the products. Its still in remarkable condition and was interesting to see how they lived back then. This was where the night Croc tour started from as well.

The other place worth a visit was the Katherine Transport/history Museum. This had the original DH 60 Moth that was used by the first Flying Doctor. It also had a great collection of old engines, farm equipment and tractors that Helen wasn't that interested in. Funny that.

The Waitress at the little cafe wasn't half bad either! They also served the best Crocodile meat sausage rolls I have ever tasted! Helen had the Scones and Jam.

The caravan Park was very nice with great facility's and very clean. You could pick the Kiwis out from the crowd due to their inventiveness!! Actually not sure what he was, stupid maybe!!

I'm not sure if the A/C unit comes out for travel but I think not, as it appears to be stuffed in fairly hard. You could end up with Frost bite on your left ear with that setup!!

We left Katherine and headed North to Adelaide river and the Race course where there is a cheap and cheerful camping ground. We based ourself here so we could go into the Litchfield national park.
We were going to go into Kakadu but heard that half of it wasn't open due to the late wet season and there were 6 Crocs they hadn't got out of the river yet.
That's for next time Toodle oo.
Dave and Helen
