4th June.
We are finally back on the Internet after a long period when it either wasn't available or too weak to do the Blog.
So in that time a lot has happened and a considerable number of Km's have been covered.

Getting back to the Savannah Way, there were a few things to avoid and this is one of them.

There are no fences along the road so you have to keep a wary eye out for these as you don't want to hit one, they are pretty solid. It could ruin your holiday in a flash.

There are plenty of them by the road but most appeared to be used to the traffic.

From Leichhardt Lagoon (got the spelling right this time) we did a day trip to Normanton and Karumba on the Gulf.
Normanton is famous for the Gulflander Railway that goes from Normanton to Croyden and is a Tourist operation these days. It wasn't running the day we were there unfortunately.

It has a very nice Historic Railway Station that is kept in pristine condition.

The other notable thing about Normanton is the replica Crocodile in the Main St.
It was modeled on Kryes the Savannah King that was shot on the Norman river, downstream from Normanton in July 1957 by Krystina Pawlowski a Crocodile shooter. It measured 8.63 meters and is the largest Croc ever shot.

Gives you an idea of the size of the Beast.
From Normanton we carried on to Karumba but I will leave that until the next post.
Cheers Helen and Dave.

  1. Hi Dave, these photos all look very familiar. I am getting a real déjà vu feeling!

    Stay safe
