The road north to Karumba is around 80km and Rob W would recognise these straight stretches after his trip around.
The land is dead flat,no bushes to speak of and lots of Cows roaming around ready to step out in front of you. You could just imagine Burke and Wills trudging across here thinking we are nearly there but still having 80km to go.
We finally got there and looked out over the Gulf of Carpentaria which Burke and Wills didn't manage to do. It was blocked by Mangroves and Mud flats apparently. Not that good on Aussie History!!
While there we were told to have a feed of Barra and chips at Ashes Fish shop. Well we did and they weren't too bad though a bit oily.
A Seafood basket for 2. Good value.
We needed diesel and found the local Depot and watched as one of the local (150km away) farmers fill up his tankers .
I had to take a photo of this as I don't think I have seen this much on a pump before. This was the third fill and it totalled about $3000.00 before they had finished. My miserable lot is on the right at $1.59 a liter which wasnt too bad as we have paid up to $1.90
Both tanks were filled. I didn't ask how long it was going to last, but awhile you would hope.
A couple of decorations around the Depot.
That's it this time. More to come.
Cheers Helen and Dave
