17th Sept
From Broome we headed South and topped up at the Sandfire Roadhouse. With Diesel at $2.05 a litre it was only a top up. Someone said it was operated by Ned Kelly's brother!! I believe them.
It was a real bush outfit, you wouldn't want anything fixed there.
From here it was on to 80 mile beach and a 10km dirt road in to the place.
By the time we got in there the rig looked like a real outback unit, covered in Red dust.
We woke up the first morning there and realised we were close to the Beach!
Once the Fog cleared we went exploring. The beach was fantastic, long and open with heaps of people fishing and catching fish as well.
It was a nice camping ground though a little bit expensive,as most of them seem to be down the coast. We will have to do more free camping.
Another lot of Sunsets to add to the ones from Mindel Beach Darwin.
They have big tides around here and this was one of the big ones. I decided to walk out to the edge of the water at low tide and worked out it was 2.5 km out, then had to walk all the way back with the Sun setting quickly. I made it back before it set and managed a few more sunset photos.
This is the view looking back to shore.
Another beautiful Sunset.
Nearly high tide. The beach goes on forever.
The day we left was pretty much the same in the Morning, Fog.
We stopped for a Cuppa at the Pardoo Roadhouse. A typical outback roadhouse.
From here it was on to a free camp at the Yule River for the night.
A nice spot but very dusty as there was a fair old wind blowing. It eased off later on so we went for a walk in the River bed and got some more Sunset shots to add to the 1000 already taken.
Next on to Point Samson and then Karratha.
Cheers Dears
Dave and Helen
